Yachtsman Steakhouse is taking dinner reservations again
If you have been holding an EPCOT-area dinner slot open while Yachtsman Steakhouse was under refurbishment, you can make the decision now. The restaurant is serving dinner again, and its current menu puts two very different new choices in front of you: an $83 American Wagyu strip and a $38 Black Garlic Fettuccine.
Disney's live Yachtsman Steakhouse page lists dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Disney's Yacht Club Resort. You do not need theme park admission, which makes it a useful for a resort evening or an arrival day when another park ticket would be wasteful.
This is still Signature Dining, not a casual meal you squeeze in after the pool. Reservations are a must and Disney asks guests to wear clean, neat attire that suits the upscale setting. Swimwear is not permitted.
That combination can be lovely when you want dinner to be the evening's main event. It is much less convincing when your party really wants a quick plate before heading somewhere else.
The two new choices pull the check in opposite directions
On the current Yachtsman Steakhouse dinner menu, the 12-ounce Prime New York Strip Steak is $65. The new 10-ounce American Wagyu New York Strip is listed as an $83 substitute with the same loaded baked potato and brandy-peppercorn sauce. That is an $18 difference for a smaller cut, but Waygu is a richer, fattier cut and therefore more filling than a steak is similar size.
At the other end, the new Black Garlic Fettuccine is $38. We're pleased to see that Disney lists this as house-made pasta. It comes with seared baby squash, heirloom cherry tomatoes, mushroom conserva, and creamy black garlic sauce. It is the least expensive adult entrée currently listed.
The fettuccine is the addition we're happiest to see. Not because $38 pasta is a bargain. It is not. A steakhouse needs a credible high-end alternative for the person in your party who does not want a steak. The current butcher's cuts run from $60 to $83, while the Land and Sea entrées run from $38 to $62.
Two Dining Plan credits make your entrée choice matter
Dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse uses two Table-Service meals per person on the Disney Dining Plan. The credit charge is the same whether you order the $38 fettuccine or the $83 Wagyu strip.

Keep the reservation only if the current menu fits
Yachtsman makes the most sense when you want a relaxed resort dinner without entering a park, at least one person is excited about the steak selection, and everyone else has found a real alternative. Its location is especially convenient for guests at Disney's Yacht Club Resort, Disney's Beach Club Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Inn, Walt Disney World Swan Hotel, and Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel.
If you want to use Disney transport you have a couple of options; from a Disney Resort other than those we just mentioned, you could take a bus to Disney Springs and then take a bus directly to Disney's Yacht Club Resort. Another option, if you're at a monorail resort (and have an annual pass) is to take the monorail to Epcot, walk through the park to International Gateway (between the UK and France pavilions), exit the park and walk over to Disney's Yacht Club Resort. Finally, those guests staying at a Disney Skyliner resort can simply take the Skyliner over to Epcot and walk to Disney's Yacht Club Resort.
