Hollywood Studios Gets Extended Evening Hours on September 16: Best 9–11 PM Ride Plan

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting an Extended Evening Hours

Its happening on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, giving eligible guests two extra hours in the park from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

This is a big planning opportunity if you are staying at a qualifying Disney Deluxe Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa Resort, or select partner hotel. Hollywood Studios can be one of the trickiest Walt Disney World parks to tour efficiently because so many of its biggest attractions pull long waits during the regular day. A late-night window with a smaller eligible guest pool can make a real difference.

But there is one important catch: you should not treat this like a bonus night where every major Hollywood Studios attraction is guaranteed to be available. The current Extended Evening Hours lineup includes several major rides, but Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is not listed. That means your strategy should handle Rise earlier in the day and use the late-night window for rides like Slinky Dog Dash, Tower of Terror, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Toy Story Mania!, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

Here is how to decide whether this perk should change your Hollywood Studios plan.

What Is Extended Evening Hours?

Extended Evening Hours is a Walt Disney World resort benefit that gives eligible guests extra time in a select theme park after regular park closing.

It is not the same thing as Disney After Hours. Disney After Hours is a separately ticketed event. Extended Evening Hours is included for qualifying resort guests, although you still need valid park admission.

For September 16, 2026, the Extended Evening Hours park is Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the scheduled time is 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

That makes this date especially useful for guests who were already planning a Hollywood Studios day, guests with Park Hopper access, and families staying at eligible resorts who want to get more value out of their hotel stay.

Who Can Use Hollywood Studios Extended Evening Hours?

Extended Evening Hours is available to registered guests staying at qualifying hotels, including:

  • Disney Deluxe Resorts
  • Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts
  • Walt Disney World Swan Hotel
  • Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel
  • Walt Disney World Swan Reserve
  • Shades of Green

Guests at Disney Value Resorts and Disney Moderate Resorts generally do not qualify for Extended Evening Hours, although they do still receive Early Theme Park Entry.

You also need valid park admission. If your ticket type requires a theme park reservation, make sure your reservation and Park Hopper plan are set correctly. If you do not have Park Hopper access, you should plan to spend the day at Hollywood Studios if you want to use the late-night benefit there.

What Rides Are Scheduled to Be Open?

The current Hollywood Studios Extended Evening Hours attraction lineup includes:

  • Alien Swirling Saucers
  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
  • Slinky Dog Dash
  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
  • Toy Story Mania!

That is a solid lineup for a two-hour window. It gives you access to Toy Story Land, Sunset Boulevard, Echo Lake, Galaxy’s Edge, and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway near the front of the park.

The biggest planning note is what is missing: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is not currently part of the listed lineup. If Rise is a must-do for your group, plan it during regular park hours instead of saving it for Extended Evening Hours.

Should You Move Your Hollywood Studios Day to September 16?

For eligible guests, yes, this date is worth serious consideration.

Hollywood Studios is one of the best parks for Extended Evening Hours because its ride lineup is concentrated around a handful of high-demand attractions. A normal Hollywood Studios day can involve a lot of waiting, a lot of refreshing the app, and a lot of hard choices between headliners, shows, dining, and nighttime entertainment.

A two-hour late-night window gives you breathing room.

This is especially valuable if you are staying at one of the Crescent Lake resorts, such as Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, or Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. Being close to Hollywood Studios makes the late night easier, especially when you are heading back to your room after 11:00 PM.

It is also useful for Swan, Dolphin, and Swan Reserve guests, since those hotels qualify and are conveniently located near Hollywood Studios.

Who Should Not Build Their Whole Day Around This?

Extended Evening Hours is powerful, but it is not perfect for every group.

You may not get full value if your family has young kids who cannot comfortably stay up until 11:00 PM. A late-night park strategy only works if everyone still has enough energy to enjoy it. If your group will be exhausted by 9:15 PM, it may be better to use Early Theme Park Entry on a different morning.

You should also be careful if September 17 is an early-start day. Pairing Hollywood Studios Extended Evening Hours with a rope-drop morning the next day can lead to burnout, especially in September when heat and humidity can still drain your energy.

And if your main goal is Rise of the Resistance, this perk does not solve that problem by itself. Handle Rise separately.

Best Overall Strategy for September 16

The best approach is to treat Extended Evening Hours as your second wind, not your entire Hollywood Studios plan.

Do not arrive at 9:00 PM hungry, overheated, and already frustrated. The guests who get the most out of Extended Evening Hours are usually the ones who pace themselves earlier in the day.

Here is the ideal structure:

Morning: Start slowly or visit a different park if you have Park Hopper access. If Hollywood Studios is your only park for the day, prioritize Rise of the Resistance, shows, characters, and anything not included in the Extended Evening Hours lineup.

Afternoon: Take a real break. Go back to the hotel, swim, nap, shower, or sit in air conditioning. This is especially important if you have kids or anyone in your group who struggles with late nights.

Early evening: Return to Hollywood Studios around dinner time. Eat before the late-night window begins. Do not rely on a full meal during Extended Evening Hours, because only select food and beverage locations may be available.

8:30–8:45 PM: Start moving toward your first ride area. You do not need to sprint, but you do want to be intentional. The first 30 minutes can still feel busier because regular daytime guests may already be in queues before park close.

9:00–11:00 PM: Focus on clusters. Hollywood Studios involves more walking than people expect, and crisscrossing the park can waste valuable time.

For most guests, the best strategy is to start on Sunset Boulevard, move toward the center of the park, and finish in Toy Story Land.

8:45 PM: Get to Sunset Boulevard

Start near Tower of Terror and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster. This puts you in position for two thrill rides that can be difficult to fit into a normal day without waits or Lightning Lane planning.

9:00 PM: Ride Tower of Terror

Tower of Terror is a great first stop because it is a major Hollywood Studios headliner and one of the best attractions to experience at night. It also keeps you from immediately joining the rush toward Slinky Dog Dash.

9:25 PM: Ride Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

After Tower of Terror, move next door to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster. Knocking out both Sunset Boulevard thrill rides early gives your night a strong start without sending you across the park.

9:55 PM: Ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

From Sunset Boulevard, head toward the Chinese Theatre. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a smart middle-of-the-night pick because it is centrally located and works for a wide range of guests.

10:25 PM: Head to Toy Story Land

Move into Toy Story Land for the final stretch. This is where you can choose between Toy Story Mania!, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Slinky Dog Dash.

10:30 PM: Ride Toy Story Mania! or Alien Swirling Saucers

If your group loves Toy Story Mania!, do that first. If you have younger kids or want a lower-stress ride, Alien Swirling Saucers can be a good quick add.

10:45 PM: Get in Line for Slinky Dog Dash

Slinky Dog Dash is the big prize in Toy Story Land. For many guests, saving it toward the end of the night is the right move because posted waits may become more manageable after the first wave of Extended Evening Hours guests has spread out.

The risk is downtime. If Slinky Dog Dash has been unreliable earlier in the evening, prioritize it sooner.

Alternative Plan for Families With Younger Kids

If your group does not care about thrill rides, skip Sunset Boulevard and keep the night gentler.

Try this version instead:

  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Toy Story Mania!
  • Alien Swirling Saucers
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

This plan avoids Tower of Terror and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster while still giving your family a fun late-night mix of screen-based rides, Toy Story Land, and Star Wars.

If your kids are already tired by 10:00 PM, do not force the full plan. A good Extended Evening Hours night does not have to mean riding everything. Even two or three lower-wait attractions can make the perk worthwhile.

Alternative Plan for Star Wars Fans

Star Wars fans should use the late window carefully.

Because Rise of the Resistance is not currently listed for Extended Evening Hours, you should plan Rise during the regular park day. Do not wait until 9:00 PM and assume it will be available.

For the late-night window, a Star Wars-focused plan could look like this:

  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Slinky Dog Dash or Tower of Terror

This gives you a Star Wars-heavy night without building the entire strategy around an attraction that is not currently part of the Extended Evening Hours list.

What About Fantasmic!?

Fantasmic! can complicate this night.

If the show overlaps with the start of Extended Evening Hours, you need to make a choice: do you want nighttime entertainment, or do you want lower-wait rides?

For first-time visitors, Fantasmic! may still be worth prioritizing. It is one of the signature nighttime shows at Walt Disney World, and many families would rather see the show than squeeze in one or two extra rides.

For repeat visitors, Extended Evening Hours may be the better use of time. If you have already seen Fantasmic!, use this night for attractions and watch the show on a different Hollywood Studios evening if your itinerary allows.

Should You Buy Lightning Lane for Hollywood Studios That Day?

Eligible guests may be able to reduce their need for Lightning Lane on September 16, but that does not mean everyone should skip it.

You can probably skip or reduce paid ride assistance if:

  • You are eligible for Extended Evening Hours
  • You are comfortable staying until 11:00 PM
  • You do not need to ride every headliner during the daytime
  • You are okay handling Rise of the Resistance separately
  • You have flexibility in your touring plan

Lightning Lane may still make sense if:

  • Hollywood Studios is your only park day
  • You are traveling with kids who may not last until 11:00 PM
  • Rise of the Resistance is a top priority
  • You want to see shows, meet characters, and dine without sacrificing rides
  • You have a low tolerance for standby waits

The best middle-ground approach is to use the regular day for attractions and entertainment that are not part of Extended Evening Hours, then use the 9:00–11:00 PM window for the rides that are listed.

Dining Strategy for This Night

Eat earlier than you normally would.

A late table-service dinner can eat into your most valuable park time. If you book dinner at 7:45 PM or 8:00 PM, you may still be paying the check or walking back into the park when the late-night window begins.

For this date, a better plan is:

  • Table-service dinner around 5:00–6:00 PM
  • Quick-service dinner around 6:00–7:00 PM
  • Snack break around 8:00 PM
  • Rides from 9:00–11:00 PM

If you are park hopping into Hollywood Studios, eat before you arrive or choose a simple dinner that will not slow down the evening. Extended Evening Hours is not the time to gamble on a long meal.

Best Resorts for Taking Advantage of This Perk

The easiest guests to recommend this for are those staying near Hollywood Studios.

That includes:

  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort
  • Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
  • Walt Disney World Swan Hotel
  • Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel
  • Walt Disney World Swan Reserve

Guests at these hotels have a convenient route back after the park closes, which makes the late night feel less exhausting.

That said, any eligible guest can benefit. If you are staying at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Riviera, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, or another qualifying Deluxe Villa property, this perk can still be worth planning around. Just build in enough time for transportation at the end of the night.

What Non-Eligible Guests Should Know

If you are not eligible for Extended Evening Hours, September 16 does not give you extra ride time.

You can still visit Hollywood Studios during normal operating hours, but once regular park hours end, attraction access is limited to eligible guests. Cast Members may verify eligibility at attractions, so do not plan on staying late for rides unless your hotel qualifies.

For non-eligible guests, this may be a good night to do Hollywood Studios earlier in the day and then leave before closing. You could also choose a different park in the evening if you want a more relaxed close to the day.

Is This Better Than Extended Evening Hours at Magic Kingdom?

It depends on your priorities.

Magic Kingdom has more attractions, which can make its Extended Evening Hours feel more flexible. But Hollywood Studios has several high-demand rides that can be difficult to fit into a normal day. That makes a smaller late-night window feel especially useful.

Hollywood Studios is also a strong pick for adults, teens, thrill-ride fans, and Star Wars fans. It may be less ideal for families with very young children, mostly because the 9:00–11:00 PM timing can be tough.

For many eligible guests, this is one of the most valuable resort perks on the September calendar.

Final Recommendation

If you are staying at an eligible resort and will be at Walt Disney World on September 16, strongly consider making Hollywood Studios your evening park.

Use the regular day for Rise of the Resistance, shows, characters, meals, and anything that is not part of the Extended Evening Hours lineup. Then save the late-night window for the rides that benefit most from lower crowds.

A smart plan would look like this:

  • Handle Rise of the Resistance before Extended Evening Hours
  • Eat dinner before 8:00 PM
  • Start near Sunset Boulevard if you want thrill rides
  • Save Toy Story Land for the final stretch
  • Do not overplan every minute
  • Build in a slower morning on September 17

Hollywood Studios can be a stressful park when you try to do everything at once. Extended Evening Hours gives eligible guests a better way to spread out the day, avoid some peak waits, and enjoy the park after dark.

For the right group, September 16 could be one of the best Hollywood Studios nights of the season.
